Wecasa
Senior React / React Native Front-end developer and design referent
What I did at Wecasa
I'm currently a senior Front-end developer at Wecasa. I'm part of the “Book & Repeat” squad, we're the squad that manages everything to do with the post-purchase user experience.
During my time at Wecasa, I've been able to wear many different hats and work on many different subjects
As a developer:
- I had to develop new features.
- I had to work on the legacy and improve what already existed.
- As well as developing, my job consisted of taking part in various rituals such as tech scoping to prepare technically for the big projects to come, or poker planning to estimate the tasks.
- As a senior, I had to support the junior developers.
- My role was also to put the web funnel and mobile applications into production when necessary.
At Wecasa, as well as being a Front-end developer, I worked alongside the design team as a design consultant. My role as design consultant consisted of:
- To create a guideline in order to have rules for each of our components, how to manage our spacing, our typography, our colour palette, the column system for the different devices, etc.
- Improve communication between the developers and the Design team so that every change is taken into account in both the codebase and our Design System.
- Work on the existing system so that our components are up to date on the Design System.
- Make sure that the Design System is simple, understandable and that our components are very easy to use.
I was able to work on several technologies at Wecasa:
- React.js to work on the booking funnel on the Wecasa website.
- React Native to work on the mobile application for Wecasa customers.
- Rails / Ruby on Rails to work on the website such as the roulette game for Valentine's Day in 2021 or in particular the rebranding of May 2021 as well as on some back-end parts of Wecasa such as automatic professional photo clipping.
Description of Wecasa
Wecasa, founded in 2016, is now the leader in booking hairdressing, beauty, massage, sports coach, housekeeping and childcare services at home.
Wecasa offers two universes of services: wellness (hairdressing, beauty, massage, sports coach) & care (housework and childcare).
Wecasa's ambition is to enable people to find time for themselves and their loved ones. In other words, to turn cleaning Saturdays into massage Saturdays!
To make customers' daily lives easier and more attractive, so that everyone can take the break they need to feel good at home.
A promise: to find, from among the 5,000 professionals registered on the platform, the one who will be available within 2 hours and nearby to carry out the service ordered. By eliminating the need to make appointments in advance, as well as transport and waiting times, customers have more time for themselves! Wecasa puts the value back into time.
Wecasa makes it possible to book a service on the app or on the wecasa.fr website for the same day (1 to 3 hours in advance depending on the region), the following day or any other day you wish, from Monday to Sunday, 7am to 10pm.
The professional will then go to the customer's home for the Wecasa session.
You can personalise your service by choosing, for example, a haircut with or without shampoo, a bridal hairstyle with or without a trial, a 30-minute or one-hour massage, etc.
This flexibility means we can respond to any situation: an unexpected job interview: a hairdresser can be called in quickly; a shift in working hours: an appointment is possible until 10pm and on Sundays; the usual nanny is ill: a reliable, trained nanny can be called in quickly; a stressful situation: a qualified masseur is available within the hour.
Since its creation in 2016, Wecasa has always placed home professionals at the heart of its strategy. The company has deployed numerous actions designed to recruit and retain them: events, individual meetings, Facebook group.
The challenge is to select even more good professionals and build their loyalty. Our mission is to relieve professionals of all the sales, marketing and administrative tasks so that they can concentrate solely on their core business and use the time saved to grow their business.
It's clear that Wecasa plays an active role in inclusion! Our professionals reflect French society in terms of origin, skin colour, age, etc.
Our algorithm does not discriminate in the way that humans might, even unintentionally.
In the case of cleaning, for example, it suggests the professional who matches the customer's needs and availability and who is located in the customer's geographical area; this means that male cleaners have as much chance of working as female cleaners (essential for combating the gender stereotypes that characterise this profession)!
This system enables a choice to be made that is not based on skin colour, gender or other potentially discriminatory criteria. 30% of our housekeepers are “housekeepers”
Wecasa has chosen a complementary team consisting of a CEO, a COO, a CTO, a VP Data and a product design expert in order to bring everything in-house.
We control our entire product: ergonomics, design, etc. Everything is developed in-house. Everything is developed in-house, so we don't need to call our service provider in a panic if we have a problem with the platform.
At Wecasa, we are GLEEC! Kindness, Freedom, Diligence, Efficiency, Trust.
