Overview
Tales of Xillia Remastered is the remastered version of Tales of Xillia, a Japanese action-RPG from the Tales of series developed and published by Bandai Namco, originally released on PS3. This remaster makes it available on PC, PS5, PS4, Switch and Xbox Series.
Story and world
The story takes place in Rieze Maxia, a world where humans and spirits live side by side. At the start of the game you choose your protagonist: Jude Mathis, a medical student, or Milla Maxwell, who introduces herself as the lord of spirits. Their paths cross within the first few hours and they then travel together.
These two playable protagonists offer different points of view, even if the second perspective adds little. I really recommend playing as Jude the first time if you want to do both points of view, or otherwise only as Jude if you are going to play the game just once.
Gameplay
Battles are in real time, as in the other Tales of games, with one particularity: the link system. You can link your character to another party member to fight as a duo, and each companion brings their own ability when linked. The two linked characters can also trigger combined attacks together.
This link system between characters makes for very dynamic combat and good combined attacks.
Verdict
The remaster stays modest, but the game still holds up very well.
