Overview
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an action-RPG developed and published by Square Enix. Final Fantasy VII Remake came out in 2020 on PS4, and the Intergrade version, released in 2021, adds an extra episode centred on Yuffie. It is the first part of the trilogy that revisits Final Fantasy VII.
Story and world
You play as Cloud, a former SOLDIER turned mercenary, hired by the Avalanche group to attack a Mako reactor in the city of Midgar.
This remake does not settle for redoing the original: it stretches Midgar across an entire game and fully commits to its own narrative choices. On the other hand, there is a lot of filler.
Gameplay
The combat mixes real time and ATB: you attack directly to fill the ATB gauge, then spend it to use abilities, cast spells or use items, and the action slows down when you open the command menu. It is a real success, snappy without sacrificing the tactical side.
Graphics and music
Visually and musically, it is gorgeous.
Verdict
A lot of filler, but successful combat, and visually as well as musically it is gorgeous.
