Overview
Octopath Traveler 0 is an HD-2D JRPG developed by Square Enix and Acquire, released in 2025. It is a console and PC adaptation of the mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, set in the same world as Octopath Traveler, long before the events of the first entry.
Story and world
You play a character created from scratch, whose hometown is destroyed at the start of the adventure. The story follows their journey to rebuild it and track down those responsible.
Gameplay
This entry adds two new features that change the approach quite a bit compared with the previous ones: creating your own hero, and town building, where you gradually rebuild and develop your village.
The combat foundation is still the excellent one of the series: turn-based fights where you look for enemy weaknesses to break their guard, and build up boost points to power up your actions at the right moment.
Graphics and music
At times you can tell the game was originally a mobile title, notably from the cutscenes that drop to a black background with no sound and so on.
