Overview
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is the HD-2D remake of the seventh entry in the Dragon Quest series, developed and published by Square Enix. The original game came out in 2000 on PlayStation, and this remake takes its huge adventure and strips away its slow opening.
Story and world
The hero lives on the island of Estard, which its inhabitants believe to be the only land in the world. With his friend Prince Kiefer, he discovers tablet fragments that let him travel into the past, to islands that have vanished.
You explore these islands and restore them one by one through time travel: each island saved in the past reappears in the present.
Gameplay
Battles are turn-based, and progression relies on the vocation system: each character can switch vocations and learn the skills tied to them. It is this system that makes the progression so satisfying.
The pacing is far easier to digest than it used to be.
Graphics and music
The HD-2D art direction is superb.
