Overview
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an action-RPG set in the ancient Hisui region, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, released in 2022. I played it on Nintendo Switch.
I expected a lot from it, as I had not played many Pokémon games.
Story and world
The game takes place in Hisui, the old name of the Sinnoh region, at a time when humans and Pokémon still struggle to live together. The hero, who arrived from another era through a rift in the sky, joins the Galaxy Team to create the region's first Pokédex.
I expected more from the story: since it takes place in the past, I thought it would give us information about the lore or something.
Gameplay
Catching happens directly in the open world: you sneak up on Pokémon by hiding in the tall grass and throw Poké Balls at them, without necessarily going through a battle. For each species, research tasks (catching several, seeing it use a move, etc.) let you complete its Pokédex entry.
The only goal is pretty much to fill your Pokédex, nothing more, and it is repetitive.
Graphics and music
The game is passable, nothing more, and not that pretty.
Verdict
A passable game, nothing more: not that pretty, repetitive, and with filling your Pokédex as its only goal. The story did not give me what I expected from this dive into the past. Nothing more to say: give it a miss.
