Overview
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an open-world action-adventure game, sequel to Breath of the Wild developed by Nintendo and published by Nintendo, released in 2023. I played it on Nintendo Switch.
It's a game just as good as its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Story and world
After the events of Breath of the Wild, Link and Zelda explore the depths beneath Hyrule Castle, where they awaken an ancient threat. Zelda disappears, Link is wounded, and sky islands appear above the kingdom.
You find the map of Hyrule again, now expanded with these islands in the sky and a vast underground world, the Depths.
Gameplay
The game goes even further in the freedom the previous entry already gave us. You can build pretty much anything you want, by putting together pieces of wood or other materials with functional objects, such as fans, wheels or rockets.
It's truly a game that pushes your creativity to the max.
There are also new gameplay features, with powers that replace the Sheikah Slate: Ultrahand to move and stick objects together, Fuse to merge an object with a weapon, a shield or an arrow, Ascend to go up through ceilings, and Recall to rewind an object's movement through time.
Graphics and music
The game keeps the art direction of Breath of the Wild, with a cel-shaded style in pastel colours, and the same discreet approach to music during exploration.
Verdict
As good as Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom pushes freedom and creativity even further thanks to its building system and its new powers. I loved playing it, and I recommend it.
