Overview
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an action-adventure game, remake of the 1993 Game Boy classic developed by Grezzo and published by Nintendo, released in 2019. I played it on Nintendo Switch.
Story and world
After a shipwreck, Link wakes up on Koholint Island, far from Hyrule. To leave it, he has to gather the eight Instruments of the Sirens, scattered across the island's dungeons, in order to wake the Wind Fish sleeping at the top of the mountain.
The story is fairly simplistic.
Gameplay
The game keeps the structure of the original: an island to explore from a top-down view, puzzle dungeons and items that gradually open up new paths. The remake adds a dungeon creation mode, where you put together rooms you have already visited.
On the other hand, the game is really short, with few side quests and collectibles.
Graphics and music
The game is very beautiful, and you can tell it has been brought up to date. It goes for a "toy" style, with characters that look like figurines and a blur effect on the edges of the screen that makes you feel like you're looking at a diorama.
I really liked the music, which takes the themes from the Game Boy version with new arrangements.
Verdict
A very beautiful remake with pleasant music, but a simplistic story and a really short adventure, with little side content. I recommend it, even though I find the game a bit too expensive.
