Overview
Fire Emblem Awakening is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, released in 2013. I played it on 3DS.
Honestly, it's a really good Fire Emblem, one of my favourites along with Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright!
Story and world
The game is incredible. Without wanting to spoil too much, you play as a protagonist you create yourself, and you go through all sorts of adventures alongside Chrom.
Chrom is the prince of the halidom of Ylisse and the leader of the Shepherds, a militia that protects the kingdom. The amnesiac protagonist is found by Chrom at the start of the adventure and becomes the group's tactician, as conflicts break out with neighbouring countries and the undead invade the continent.
Gameplay
As in many entries, weapons and tomes have a limited number of uses. Skills really make a difference in making characters very powerful.
The classes are really interesting, and some of them let you combine weapons and magic. You can even reclass characters if you're not happy with their current class, and come up with great combinations.
You end up with a great system for anyone who loves making builds and combining skills, especially with .
Units placed side by side or paired up support each other in battle, and their relationships grow through support conversations. The game also offers a mode where units who fall in battle are not lost for good.
Graphics and music
The music is outstanding. As for the graphics, the game hasn't aged too badly, honestly it's fine.
Battles are shown in 3D, and some key moments of the story are told through animated cutscenes.
Verdict
An incredible Fire Emblem and one of my favourites along with Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright. The classes, reclassing and skills allow for great combinations, and the music is outstanding.
