Overview

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, released in 2016. I played it on 3DS.

It's truly one of my favourite games, along with Fire Emblem Awakening!

I played all three versions of Fire Emblem Fates, namely Birthright, Conquest and Revelation, and honestly, I loved all three!

Story and world

You play as Corrin, a prince or princess born in the kingdom of Hoshido but raised by the royal family of the rival kingdom of Nohr. When war breaks out between the two kingdoms, Corrin has to choose a side. In Birthright, you side with Hoshido, Corrin's birth family.

At no point do you feel like you're "replaying" the same game three times: each version brings a different storyline and different maps.

Gameplay

The gameplay is great too. I liked that weapon durability was removed: you can use a weapon as much as you want, with the most powerful weapons instead coming with stat drawbacks.

A bit like in Fire Emblem Awakening, there's also

Birthright offers side battles to level up your units, and you have your own castle that serves as a hub between battles.

Graphics and music

The game is incredible when it comes to music, especially with Azura's songs.

Verdict

I loved playing this entry, and it's currently one of my favourites, if not my favourite. The music is incredible, the gameplay is great, and the three versions of Fates each offer a different experience.
