Overview
Kirby: Planet Robobot is a platformer developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, released in 2016. I played it on 3DS.
Story and world
Planet Popstar is invaded by an alien corporation, the Haltmann Works Company, which sets out to mechanise it entirely. Kirby goes off to face the invaders and free his planet.
The world blends the series' usual settings with an industrial, robotic aesthetic.
Gameplay
Kirby is amazing when he's in his robot: it adds a whole new dynamic. This Robobot Armour can scan enemies to copy their abilities, just like Kirby does by inhaling them.
Otherwise, you get the series' classic formula, with 2D levels that play with depth by moving Kirby between the foreground and the background.
Graphics and music
The game is very beautiful. It supports the 3DS's stereoscopic 3D display.
Verdict
A really great entry, and the robot brings a genuinely new dynamic to the series. I have nothing else to add: go play it!
