Overview

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. is a role-playing game developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo, released in 2013. I played it on 3DS.

I loved this entry! The Mario & Luigi series has never let me down, and this one is no exception.

Story and world

Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach are invited to Pi'illo Island, a holiday destination. There, Peach is kidnapped and taken into the Dream World.

The Dream World can be reached when Luigi falls asleep: Mario enters it and teams up with a dream version of Luigi, Dreamy Luigi.

Gameplay

It builds on the series' foundations, with turn-based battles where you can dodge and counter-attack by pressing at the right moment, while adding new mechanics.

The game makes good use of the 3DS's two screens. In the Dream World, you interact with sleeping Luigi's face on the touch screen to change the environment on the top screen.

The Dream World sections play in 2D, and some fights against giant bosses are fought with a Luigi who has become giant himself.

Graphics and music

The game is beautiful, with detailed sprites in 3D environments.

The soundtrack is composed by Yoko Shimomura, as with the previous entries in the series.

Verdict

I loved this entry: it builds on the series' foundations while adding new mechanics, and it makes good use of the 3DS's two screens. The game is beautiful, and honestly, I recommend it without hesitation!
