Overview

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros. is a role-playing game developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo, released in 2015. I played it on 3DS.

I like both the Paper Mario series and the Mario & Luigi series, and I really enjoyed this entry that brings them together!

Story and world

In Peach's Castle, Luigi accidentally knocks over a book containing the Paper Mario world. Its paper inhabitants end up scattered across the Mushroom Kingdom, Paper Bowser included, who teams up with his counterpart.

Paper Mario then joins the two brothers to set things right. The game is light-hearted.

Gameplay

Paper Mario forms a trio with Mario and Luigi. I like the Trio Attacks in the paper world, they're a real plus.

You can even guard against attacks now, on top of dodging them.

I really didn't like the Papercraft battles, though. In these sequences, you fight giant papercraft enemies aboard a large papercraft figure.

Graphics and music

The game mixes two styles: the Mario & Luigi characters and the completely flat Paper Mario ones, living side by side in the same world.

The soundtrack is composed by Yoko Shimomura, as with the previous entries in the series.

Verdict

A light-hearted entry that brings together two series I like. Trio Attacks and the ability to guard are a real plus. The only downside for me: the Papercraft battles.
