Overview
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a kart racing game developed by Nintendo and published by Nintendo, released in 2017. I played it on Nintendo Switch.
It is the Switch version of Mario Kart 8, released on Wii U in 2014, and it includes all of its DLC and a revamped Battle mode.
My wife played it more than I did, and I think she really enjoyed the multiplayer, judging by the number of hours on it!
Story and world
No story here: you pick a character from the Mario universe and take on race after race. The game also welcomes guests from other Nintendo series, such as Link, the Inklings from Splatoon and characters from Animal Crossing.
Gameplay
The game works well with several players, in split screen for up to four players on one console, or online.
Tracks include anti-gravity sections, where karts drive on walls and ceilings. Driving assists, like Smart Steering, also let beginners keep up.
We got some great DLC: the Booster Course Pass added 48 tracks to the game after its release.
Graphics and music
The tracks are colourful and detailed. The soundtrack was recorded with real instruments, in a jazz and funk style.
Verdict
The game is nice, with great DLC, and it works well with several players. The number of hours my wife spent on it says a lot about how good the multiplayer is.
