Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

A remake that finally makes a famously cryptic game readable, with the succession of generations of emperors as its through line. The system of learning techniques in the middle of a fight is very rewarding. The non-linear structure is demanding, but fascinating once you accept getting lost. The one downside: you can soft-lock a few choices if you did not make them at certain points, like in a lot of JRPGs.
