Overview
Detroit: Become Human is a narrative adventure game developed by the French studio Quantic Dream and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It came out in 2018 on PS4, then on PC.
Story and world
The game takes place in Detroit in 2038, in a world where androids are part of everyday life. You alternate between three playable androids: Kara, Connor and Markus.
This game is simply stunning in its storytelling and in its agonising choices, and the themes it tackles are deep. Every character has a life of their own and you grow fond of them.
Gameplay
The heart of the game is choice: your decisions and actions shape the story, and at the end of each chapter a flowchart shows the branches you followed and the ones you missed. This gives it good replay value.
You are never bored thinking "it is just a game where you make choices": it is dynamic, the story pulls you in, it is very immersive.
Graphics and music
The animations are superb, the voice acting is well done, everything is well thought out, even the menu, without spoiling too much!
Verdict
A game this immersive is, to me, the mark of a successful work.
