Overview
Split Fiction is an action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios, Josef Fares' studio behind A Way Out and It Takes Two, and published by Electronic Arts. It came out in 2025. Hazelight goes again with a two-player co-op, playable only in co-op, locally or online, in split screen. As with It Takes Two, the Friend's Pass lets you invite someone online without them having to buy the game.
Story and world
You play as Mio and Zoe, two writers who have nothing in common: one writes science fiction, the other fantasy. They end up trapped in a machine designed to harvest their ideas, and have to make their way together through worlds born from their own stories. The game thus alternates between fantasy and science-fiction worlds.
Gameplay
Each level brings its own mechanics, and the two players often have different abilities, which forces you to coordinate constantly. The pace is even more relentless than in It Takes Two, with gameplay ideas constantly being renewed: you go from a platforming section to an action phase or a chase without ever staying on the same thing for long.
Verdict
Split Fiction is a safe bet to play with someone who is up for it.
