Overview

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a 3D platformer developed by Nintendo and published by Nintendo, released in 2021. I played it on Nintendo Switch.

It's a port of Super Mario 3D World, originally released on Wii U in 2013, bundled with a brand-new adventure: Bowser's Fury.

Story and world

In Super Mario 3D World, Bowser kidnaps the Sprixie Princesses in a kingdom next to the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad set out to rescue them across a series of themed worlds.

In Bowser's Fury, Mario ends up on a cat-themed archipelago, where Bowser, covered in black ink, has become gigantic and out of control. Bowser Jr. then asks Mario for help to save his father.

Gameplay

Super Mario 3D World offers 3D levels to run through from start to finish, playable with up to four players in co-op. Each character has their own abilities, and the bell lets you turn into a cat to scratch enemies and climb walls.

Bowser's Fury changes the formula: the levels are connected in an open world, and Bowser regularly bursts in to disrupt your exploration.

The move to 3D isn't disappointing at all and was handled very well. My wife and I finished it at 100%, and we really struggled on the last levels (especially the one where you have to chain I don't remember how many green stars).

The game has good longevity and is well suited to players of all ages.

Graphics and music

On top of that, the game is very beautiful.

Verdict

Honestly, a little gem. The move to 3D is very well handled, the game is very beautiful, it has good longevity and suits all ages. Only the last levels gave us a hard time for the 100%.
