Overview

Super Mario Odyssey is a 3D platformer developed by Nintendo and published by Nintendo, released in 2017. I played it on Nintendo Switch.

Having loved the Mario Galaxy games, I loved this one too.

Story and world

Bowser kidnaps Peach to force her to marry him. Mario teams up with Cappy, a living hat whose sister Tiara has also been captured, and sets off after them aboard the Odyssey, a hat-shaped airship.

The adventure takes you through a series of kingdoms that are very different from one another, like New Donk City, a city inspired by New York. Each world is overflowing with creativity.

Gameplay

The game's main mechanic is capture: by throwing Cappy at an enemy or an object, Mario takes control of it and uses its abilities. The goal is to collect Power Moons, scattered all over the kingdoms, to power the Odyssey and move on to the next world.

There are also little nostalgic nods where the game switches to 2D, with a pixel-art Mario moving along the walls.

Graphics and music

The music is great, especially the song Pauline sings in the game, "Jump Up, Super Star!".

Verdict

Really nothing to add, it was a pleasure to play. Each world is overflowing with creativity, with 2D nods and great music.
