Overview
Unruly Heroes is a 2D platformer and action game developed and published by the French studio Magic Design Studios, released in 2019. It is a retelling of Journey to the West, the great Chinese novel about a monk's pilgrimage to the West in search of sacred scriptures.
Story and world
At the start of the game, the sacred scroll that kept the world in balance is torn apart and its pages are scattered, plunging the world into chaos. Four heroes set out to recover them: the monk Sanzang, Wukong the monkey king, Kihong the pig and Sandmonk.
Gameplay
You alternate between these four characters, each with their own abilities, which complement one another to get past obstacles and take on enemies. The game can also be played in co-op, with each player controlling a hero.
The combat lacks a bit of precision.
Graphics and music
The art direction, with its hand-drawn backgrounds and characters, is gorgeous.
Verdict
Despite combat that lacks a bit of precision, the game is very pleasant to play through.
